Lecture: In this portion, I'll delve into the history of Afrobeat, jazz, and Gospel and how they affected my development as a musician and influenced my current sound.

We will explore the making of Trapped In July and the reasoning behind our studio choices, with Jaybrown giving live demonstrations. Then we will finish up with some interactive Q&A.

Live music: Daniel Sar, a multi-instrumentalist Colombian musician, will give a demonstration on his loop station. We will have a live interactive music performance to end the night!

bio

“Tk The Artist symbolizes a new wave of jazz fusion and afro-soul music coming out of Western Canada. Drawing inspiration from bands like Ezra Collective, drummers like Yussef Dayes, and soul singers like Anderson .Paak; Tk combines the art of drumming and singing simultaneously into captivating live music experiences.

His presence at the center of the stage anchors a jazz band driven by afrobeat grooves, carefully crafted horn lines, warm arrangements, and soulful vocals.

Following his debut album, ‘A Journey Under the Stars’, and sophomore project, ‘Trapped in July’, Tk has brought this live music experience to stages like Breakout West, Hollywood Theatre Vancouver, Pachena Bay Music Festival, SoFar Vancouver, and Vic Int’l Jazz Festival. He has also opened for critically acclaimed artists like Kokoroko, The Wailers, Five Alarm Funk, and Grammy/Juno Award winner Alex Cuba.

Notably, Tk The Artist was nominated for WCMA’s Afrobeats Artist of the Year in 2025, and The Zone Radio’s ‘Band of the Month’ in 2026. You may have also seen him on stages across the West Coast, including his album release show at the Coda, Khatsahlano Street Party, Tofino Jazz Festival, Woodstove Festival, ArtisTree, and Victoria Canada Day celebrations.

You can catch songs like ‘Exercise’ and ‘Hustler’s Anthem’ playing on notable stations like CBC Radio, The Zone, CFUV and URP Radio, amongst others.

Just over a year after the debut album, Tk The Artist released his sophomore project, Trapped In July, in September 2026. This project explores themes of love, heartbreak, and the struggles of an independent artist and an immigrant trying to make a mark in a whole new world.
